Daughters, I Made These Mistakes So You Don’t Have To

What I want for you, a note to my daughters…

I just want you to be happy, whatever that is for you, whatever path life takes you down.

I want you to be yourself and recognize that the self you are today is not likely to be the self you are tomorrow or any day after that and that is ok, change is good. I want you to be passionate, embrace what you believe. Be open to others and understand their points of view but don’t allow anyone to tell you what you feel or believe is wrong. Be strong and independent, I know I have taught you this and modeled that. Choose a partner in life that you want to be with not that you need to be with, that person should be your greatest ally.

Don’t second guess yourself, know your worth. This is where I have struggled most and I challenge you girls to be confident and know what you bring to the table. Support other women, together we are stronger. Surround yourself with people that make you better, a better version of yourself. Be the person you looked up to so that others will look up to you.  Explore, don’t be afraid, that could be the world, a career, anything, you do not need to conform to someone else’s picture of what success is.

You think I make it look easy, it isn’t easy, it has never been easy. I am happy I have shielded you from the hardships we have faced and you see many of the things we have done or shared as your most cherished memories. I ask you though to share your stories when you are older, wiser, and ready. Sharing your stories helps support others that may face similar struggles.  Embrace failure, learn from your mistakes and wipe out negativity, it won’t get you anywhere.

I love that you girls are my friends and that you are friends with each other.  You have grown to be amazing young ladies and I could not be more proud, even though I may not always say it.

I just want you to be happy, whatever that is for you, whatever path life takes you down.

xoxo,

mom
